ALL ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Slu - a Doula and Perinatal specialist

Since 2001 I've worked with families across Hertfordshire to empower, educate and support them during pregnancy, birth and the early years of family life.

I have qualifications in HypnoBirthing and traditional antenatal education, massage and relaxation, infant feeding and baby carrying as well as a degree in Complementary Therapies from University of Greenwich and certificate in Maternal and Neonatal Health studies from University of Hertfordshire.

I have a current DBS check, first aid certificate, food hygine certificate and am a member of FEDANT; the federation of antenatal educators.

I have recently attended workshops with Sophie Messager - Doula, Shawn Walker – specialist breech birth Midwife and Director of the Breech Birth Network and Mark Harris – Midwife, Author and NLP practitioner. I’ve also attended specialist training in supporting childbearing women with hearing impairment and a 2-day workshop regarding improving trust and communication skills in the context of the childbearing year.

I’ve travelled the country, from Kent to Scotland and London to Birmingham, to develop my practice with leaders in their fields including Lorraine Murray, Marneta Viegas, Dr Ethel Burns, and Penny Simpkin, as well as attending conferences and events including those held by the Children’s Complementary Therapy Network, Canterbury Christchurch University and Kingston University.

The importance of care, education and support in one of the most challenging and transformative time of a family's life is the driving force behind my dedication to my professional development and continued training.
I'm also of the opinion that support should be offered to all who seek it and not just those who can afford private healthcare. In that vein I support local people and families without prejudice of any kind and am keen to ensure that cost is never prohibitive - I am happy to negotiate an exchange of goods or services.

In my personal life I enjoy dancing, photography, learning Spanish and travelling, and I’m lucky enough to do it all alongside a job I love and look forward to because no two days are ever the same. I get to spend time with my family and some of our favourite things to do are visit the seaside, build lego and play balloon tennis.
